Volume profiles on Mac
Volume profiles on Mac let you save the level of every app once and get it back with one click, and SoundDial keeps them as chips in its menu-bar panel.
Most people move between a few setups in a day: calls with the music low, focused work with chat muted, an evening with the game loud. Setting five sliders each time is the part that gets old. A profile stores those levels so you set them once.
Save a profile
- Set each app's slider and mute the way you want them
- Click the + next to the profile chips, pick one of 10 icons and type a name
- Or press Save in the panel footer for a quick save of the current levels
A profile stores the volume and the mute of each app by its app ID. Right-click a chip to rename it, change its icon, update it with the current levels, or delete it.
Switch with one click
Click a profile chip in the panel and SoundDial sets every running app to the level saved in it. Apps that are not open are skipped; open them and apply the profile again.
About Work, Focus and Chill
SoundDial starts with three chips called Work, Focus and Chill. They are empty: until you set your levels and choose Update from the chip's right-click menu, clicking them changes nothing. Think of them as name tags you can fill, rename or delete.
Ideas for profiles
- Calls: call app at 100%, music at 20%, chat muted
- Focus: music at 40%, chat and mail muted
- Evening: game or video loud, everything else low

Does a profile remember muted apps?
Yes. Each profile stores the volume and the mute of every app that was in the list when you saved or updated it.
Do profiles change the output device or the system volume?
No. A profile holds per-app volume and mute only. The Mac's output and master volume stay where they are.
Are the built-in profiles ready to use?
No. Work, Focus and Chill are empty until you save your own levels into them with Update.
